Cathedral

We tried to remember where and how this Game came into our collection but we forgot. It is an 'old' game, we have it for decades and to quote BoardGameGeek this game is all about:

In Cathedral, each player has a set of pieces of a different color. The pieces are in the shapes of buildings, covering from one to five square units. The first player takes the single neutral Cathedral piece and places it onto the board. Players then alternate placing one of their buildings onto the board until neither player can place another building. Players capture territory by surrounding areas that are occupied by at most one opponent or neutral building. A captured piece is removed and captured territory becomes off-limits to the opponent. The player with the fewest 'square units' of buildings that can't be placed wins.

Mechanics for this game are: Area Enclosure Pattern Building Pattern Recognition Tile Placement

I have posted a couple of pictures at a Facebookgroup Board Game Revolution and the first reaction was 'the hardest mechanic of this game is to get it IN the box again after playing'. And yeah, that is really true and sometimes a small burden to get the game our of the collection.
After having it played for a couple of times in a row with my husband we decided that it is really a cool game. Twenty minutes of Game play using a medium bit of strategy. This game is mostly beautiful for its wooden pieces, the shape of the buildings and the board itself. It should be out in the open all the time to share ots beauty but unfortunately, our house isn;t big enough.

A recommendation; if you find this game and/or spot it somewhere ->  buy it and enjoy it just as much as we do (or more ;-)
